This week,  David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and Jo Coles, Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime launched their consultation on how to set the precept. The precept is money collected through your council tax bill to pay for the police and fire and rescue services. The Mayor is asking for your views on how he can set the precept. He’s also setting out the principles he will use in order to make the final decision about the precept level.
These are:
– The minimum possible burden on local taxpayers
– Having effective, well managed public services that keep people safe and deliver value for money
– Delivering on local public priorities for both services, including improving the safety of our roads

This consultation is an opportunity to have your say on how much is invested in our police and fire and rescue services over the coming year. Please take a few minutes to have your say. Closing date for the consultation is : https://yorknorthyorks-ca.gov.uk/precept/
